On the other hand, changing your child’s name, if both parents are not in agreement, can be a complex and taxing matter. When parents are not in agreement to a child’s name change, the party trying to change the child’s name must prove that the changing of the child’s name is in in the best interest of the child. This is a high standard that has to be substantiated with proof that the name change will be for the welfare of the child. Self- serving statements by a parent that are not substantiated by objective evidence are not sufficient.
