The dissolution of marriage (divorce) process can involve complicated issues, including the division of assets and liabilities, tax considerations,  spousal support (alimony), child support, parental responsiblity and timesharing (visitation).  Our Firm can advise you of your rights and obligations under Florida law  and help you make decisions in your best interest and that of your family.

In order to obtain a divorce in Florida, you must prove that a marriage exists, that at least one party has been a Florida resident for six months immediately preceding the filing of the petition, and the marriage is irretrievably broken.

Florida is a "no fault" state.  This means that either spouse may seek a divorce without a showing of cause.  The Court must only find that the marriage is irretrievably broken or one of the parties is mentally incapacitated.

If there are minor children (under the age of 18) involved in the dissolution of marriage, Florida law requires that both parents independently complete an approved Parent Education and Family Stabilization course.  The four (4) hour course is designed to educate and assist parents in minimizing the emotional impact of the divorce on themselves and their children.  It can be taken online.
